Our beginners' costumes are simple, like the steps these dancers
learn. The costume consists of a navy blue fully-pleated skirt,
a white blouse with green piping, green spankies (bloomers!),
white poodle socks, and ghillies, traditional Irish dancing soft shoes.
Our more advanced dress, the school costume, is a royal blue dress lined in green satin and embroidered with a multi-colored Celtic design, green satin spankies, white poodle socks, and ghillies or hard shoes. The Celtic design is based on the book of Kells.
A solo dress is worn by girls who have reached the level of Open Solo.
Each dress is designed with the owner in mind, accenting her coloring
and interests.
There are two official Clarkson School of Irish Dance costumes
for the boys/men!
The Competitive Costume includes
black dress pants, black dress shirt, and Clarkson blue tie.
The Solo Costume is created with the current
style in mind, along with the individual boy's coloring, size, and
style. At one time, the style was a kilt and jacket. However with
the development of shows such as Riverdance and Lord of the Dance,
boys trends left the kilt and jacket in the closet, replacing them
with new stylish show costumes!
